2008 Toyota Tacoma – Overview

The Toyota Tacoma is a well-known name in the compact pick up category. Since its launch in the market, the Tacoma not only brings a comfortable cab, but also a refined ride, responsive handling, proven off-road capability, and quality construction. For 2008, the Toyota Tacoma comes in three different body styles - Regular Cab, Access Cab (extended cab) and Double Cab (crew cab). Beds

For the Regular and Access Cabs, there are six-foot beds, but the Double Cab models come with the choice of a shorter five-foot bed or a standard-size six-footer. The Fiber-reinforced Sheet-Molded Composite (SMC) inner bed of the trucks is made with steel outer panels, storage compartments, rail caps and removable tailgate. This new composite non-rusting and non-denting inner bed is lighter, but tougher and more durable. For convenience, there is a 400-watt (115 volt) cargo bed power outlet also.

Under the Hood

The base engine is a 2.7-liter inline-4 that is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. For this engine four-speed automatic is optional. For Double Cabs, a 4.0-liter V6 engine is standard, which comes as an optional feature for 4WD Access Cabs. This engine is mated with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic.

Interior look

The latest Toyota Tacoma truck has a roomy interior, apart from excellent off-road capability to be its best attributes. There are minor interior changes, like rear seats in the Access Cab line-up that can now be folded down easily to accommodate a child seat. Access Cab styled models with sport seats now comes with walk-in feature for easy entry and exit. The interior cabin that is quite compact and can hold three to five people, depending upon the model and the body-style. For the front seat one can select from bench, bucket or sports type, and for the rear seat, the options are jump or 60-40 split-bench seats.

Standard safety features that come on all the thirteen models include anti-lock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, side curtain airbags, child seat lower anchorage, energy management feature, trunk Release and tire pressure monitor
